This subreddit is a community where those interested in the sport as defined here can share their opinions and experience as well as the science of the sport. Don devalue opinions and experience by dismissing them as "broscience". This subreddit is not a site for vetting only scientifically provable propositions. Remember, science, particularly in the area of sports and nutrition, is evolving rapidly. Our experience, though anecdotal, can help fill those gaps until the scientific community reaches consensus.

Fuck motivation. Motivation makes you feel good. It gives you these good feelings but they ain gonna last for long. You become EXCITED when you are motivated but then the energy dies away. So it becomes a cycle of excitement and depression. excitement and depression.
What you need to do is, not get motivated but build yourself discipline and good habits. Discipline yourself to do something easy EVERYDAY for however long it takes to become a habit. It can be something lifting or nutrition related. Like replacing all your sugary drinks in a day with water or milk. Or dynamic stretching. Or practicing form for lifts you have trouble with until you have a better hold on them. As you build discipline for that you look at each day as a tiny victory instead of a chore. Then simply apply that discipline for going to the gym.
